Supporting children with gaps in their mathematical understanding
A new Primary National Strategy publication, including extensive teaching materials, to support further development in working with children who have gaps in their mathematical understanding is now available via Prolog (Tel: 0845 60 222 60).
The Primary National Strategy has reprinted its popular Wave 3 mathematics materials Supporting children with gaps in their mathematical understanding.
Schools can obtain a copy from the DfES orderline 0845 602226.
The entitlement is one pack for each eligible school (English maintained schools with primary aged pupils, including Primary, Infant, Junior, middle-deemed- primary, middle-deemed-secondary, special schools and PRUs). Availability is guaranteed for orders during September 2006.
Schools can also access the material by

The pack, Supporting children with gaps in their mathematical understanding, is the culmination of work with schools in around 27 LEAs from Autumn 2003 onwards. Other LEAs also accessed the materials from the pilot website. As a result of feedback during the pilot phase, this resource has evolved into a revised form with many additional features incorporated. The Strategy is grateful to all those who have contributed to this process.
The guidance book which is part of the pack, Using the pack, includes case study material from the pilot as well as an outline for a staff meeting to support schools in beginning the process of familiarising staff with these new resources, and planning for Wave 3 mathematics provision.
A leaflet, Targeting support: implementing interventions for children with significant difficulties in mathematics, giving further information about the new Primary National Strategy publication and the research background, is downloadable from this site now and available in hard copy from Prolog (Ref: DfES 1083-2005, bulk copies if required). |
